Squirrel Prep and Cooking

Squirrel is one of my favourite wild fare. I bagged myself one at my brothers, so I thought you’d like to see how I prepped it, I also salted the skin for a future project.

I took the squirrel with a head shot from the top of an oak in my brothers garden, nice clean kill, they can be difficult quarry and a well placed shot is needed.

Bison Bushcraft Guide Shirt Review

thumbnailWell it’s not very often you get a garment made in the UK with materials sourced and woven in the UK giving a well known brand made in china cheaply made garment a run for its money but Roger from Bison Bushcraft has managed it with the Guide shirt!

 

I saw the prototype garment and immediately wanted one, and now it’s here and its set to knock the RM popularised Swanndri off its shelve in my opinion.

How to Carve a Spoon Using Simple Hand Tools

bowl-and-spoon-carving1I managed to grab myself a couple of bits of spoon fodder this weekend, Ash, willow but in particular a piece of hawthorn, hawthorn is a very wet and closed grained wood when cut, fantastic for carving, here’s what I did with it.
First I split the wood using an axe (no pics of that sorry) then I sketched the outline of a spoon on the blank and cut four stop cuts into it prior to carving, stop cuts STOP you cutting through the piece you are carving and splitting through into other more delicate parts of yourcarving.
