I was really interested in your article and through trial & error I came to the same conclusion, but with all this dogmatic following of Scandi-Grind being the only way I kept my technique secret as I felt like I'd be burnt on a bow-drill started fire as a heretic!

So thank you I can now go into the woods and be proud of my secondary bevel!

Loved it! For me it's safer in my Ozark woods, where the snakes in the grass are easier to spot, and there is always some trick to keep away little blood sucking pests.

Recall my late dad talk of using the otter board but would not elaborate, maybe it was he did not want to encourage me become involved in poaching which he obviously did.I am glad, at last,to have the knowledge I sought after for so many years. I am however a respected member of an angling club and would not like to use any methods of angling which would contravene the rules.....much as I would like to.

Tony et.al...
1} olive oil better as can used with food and if no bush buffet can eat cloth and absorb all good vitamins of the oil, natural sunscreen greeks and others have used for millenia...
2} mineral oil has no odor (won't attract animals and rats/mice/bugs), is a natural laxative, can be placed via drops into ears to naturally dissolve wax and clean/prevent buildup
and other things...
so there you have some attributes and if properly stored good extra virgin olive oil will take a long time to go rancid and is flammable for torches...
